Load Testing

It is crucial that standby generators and UPS systems are load tested on a regular basis to ensure the customer’s disaster recovery plan is fit for purpose and, if needed, that the standby generator and UPS system can withstand the power requirements if a failure occurs.

Standby generators that are only run on a light load can give a false impression of capability and may be unable to run a heavy load due to a build-up of engine fuel deposits, resulting in a reduction in generator output in an emergency situation. It is essential therefore, that generators and UPS systems are load tested on a sufficient load, based on the specified output required.

We supply a mobile load bank, which is brought on site to allow the generator or UPS to be load tested in a safe and controlled environment. We performance test the generator and UPS system over a range of loads over a period of time, monitoring its performance before finally testing the overload capacity. Once the readings are recorded, we will supply the customer with an assessment and a report of the load testing results and any maintenance work required.

We recommend generators and UPS systems are load tested at least once a year to ensure the generators and UPS are fit for purpose when needed for an emergency.
